The EU GCCA+ initiative contributes towards achieving the overall target of at least 20 % of the EU budget spent on climate action by 2020, as much as EUR 180 billion.
EU GCCA+ commitments total EUR 750 million over the period 2007-2020, making it one of the largest climate initiatives in the world. Its budget has increased from EUR 317.5 million in the first phase (2007-2014) to EUR 420 million in the second phase (2014-2020).
Origin of funding
2014-2020
In the second phase, the EU GCCA+ received a total of EUR 420 million:
EUR 350 million from the Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI) through the Global Public Goods and Challenges (GPGC) programme –– and an additional EUR 70 million for the Intra-ACP GCCA+ programme, financed under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).
2008-2014
In its first phase, the EU GCCA initiative received a total of EUR 317.5 million:
EUR 242.5 million from the Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI), EUR 37.5 million from five Member States (Ireland, Sweden, Estonia, Cyprus and the Czech Republic), and a further EUR 37.5 million for the Intra-ACP EU GCCA programme, financed under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).
