A Special Post-COP21 Meeting is scheduled to take place on 22 and 23 March 2016 at the ACP Secretariat, Brussels, Belgium. The goal of the two-day meeting is to facilitate dialogue and discuss follow-up actions to implement the Paris Agreement, in collaboration with partners and particularly focusing on key issues affecting the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states.
Representatives from ACP regions, the European Commission, South Centre and other invited stakeholders, such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), representatives of groups including the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs), will take part in discussions, share opinions and perspectives on follow-up actions and possible joint activities for partnerships post-COP21.
After a short welcome from the Chair of the Sub-Committee on Sustainable Development and a review by the French government on the outcomes of COP21, delegates will hear from the hosts of the next Conference of the Parties to be held in Morocco, followed by a key note address from Miguel Arias Cañete, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy.
Invited speakers from the European Commission, the South Centre and the United Nations will take the floor during the rest of the morning, and an ACP Assessment Paper on the outcomes of Paris COP21 will be presented in order to foster discussion on potential key actions for implementing the Paris Agreement.
In the afternoon on day 1, representatives from Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific region will present their position in the wake of COP21. Sessions focusing on Small Island States, LDCs and AOSIS will be followed by presentations from the Ramphal Institute, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, and an interactive session around the subject of the Green Climate Fund. A cocktail will close proceedings on day 1.
Day 2 will be launched with a presentation of the ACP Actions Post-COP21 and discussions on the scope for joint activities. A question and answer session will help to elaborate the key points and undertakings, following by a plenary session to reach final agreement on the ACP Actions Post-COP21, and a closing session rounding up the two-day event.
