🌍 Mozambique is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change. At least two million people were made homeless due to cyclones. Extreme events also led to the loss of human life, destruction of houses, schools, health centres and productive assets.
“Building Local Climate Resilience in Mozambique" (MERCIM) was launched to improve local capacity using a bottom-up approach. Local consultative councils engage communities and define their priority needs. Proposals for practical action are then implemented by local and provincial administrations.
“The participation of the community is extremely important because it means action is guided by those who suffer most from the effects of climate change.”
