Fridays for Climate | Mango trees as a response to climate change in Barbados

In Barbados, the sustainable land management programme is designed to improve the natural resources-based resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The EU GCCA+ Mango Biodiversity project aimed to plant almost 6000 mango trees on vulnerable riverbank areas. 🥭The mango tree was selected because of his deep tap root system which reduces the erosion phenomenon and supports soil stabilization when the island faces strong winds or hurricanes.

Planting mango trees is a response to climate change but it enhances food security, land management and sustainability of livelihood. 🌴
