Fridays for Climate | Supporting women to claim the land in Niger

In some countries of the Sahel like Niger, more than 50% of agricultural land degradation is due to an extensive agropastoral system that destroys the soil.

The Climate Resilience for Sustainable Agricultural Development programme supported by GCCA+ in Zinder and Dosso, provinces of Niger, aims to recover degraded land and to develop social progress. The project involves a series of agricultural techniques on soils that have become unsuitable for agriculture, such as the assisted natural regeneration for trees 🌳.

As the main beneficiaries of this programme, women receive social engineering training to ensure cohesion within the community  👩🏾‍🌾. First, they undertake to reclaim the land and receive food support while the work is underway. Then, the reclaimed site is secured through donations or loans. Women treat the land with organic manure until sowing or planting can begin with the first rains 💦.
