Fridays for Climate | Uganda: Schools & equal footing for farmers

In Uganda, the FAO and the EU GCCA+ encourage farmers to adapt to climate change. 🌱 The core of this initiative is the farmer fields school in which farmers receive trainings, share experiences and learn from each other.

By joining the Balyejjusa Farmer Field School, Mrs. Ssekide realized that it is necessary to work together to farm correctly.

“If you don’t cooperate, then the farming will not be successful. That’s why I convinced my husdand to join the farmer field school in order for us to work as a team. We were trained and encouraged to work hard to handle climate change challenges and to meet our basic needs.”
- Mrs. Ssekide, farmer, Mubende District 👩🏾‍🌾

As well as providing nutritional food for her family, Mrs. Ssekide is responsible for the goats the poultry and the garden while Mr. Ssekide has invested into a piggery. This division of labor has largely improved their daily life and their relationship is more on an equal footing. 👫🏿
